Last night we rang in the New Year with the traditional bout of dancing, eating, drinking; and of course, a raucous ten-second countdown with champagne and kisses all around. It was fabulous, and fun spending time with friends that I haven’t seen in way too long. It’s nice to know that we’re pretty much guaranteed to all be together for New Year’s.
With 2011 very definitely here, I know that a lot of people are making resolutions. Over dinner a few days ago Mom asked us if we were making resolutions this year, and I wasn’t really sure how to answer yet. I’ve made plenty of resolutions in the past, and like the vast majority of the world, I hardly ever keep any of them. Last year I resolved to lose weight and quit smoking, and neither really worked out all that well for me. I still want to do those things this year, but I don’t really feel like a New Year’s resolution is going to help me at all.
I have a short attention span. When I become interested in something, I’ll invest obsessive hours in it before very suddenly losing interest because I’ve found some new obsession. For that reason, I’m going to continue to set monthly goals based on my 101 in 1001 list. A month seems like a reasonable amount of time to focus on any one thing, and I only have about a year and a half left to work on my list.
Here’s to 2011 being as good, or better than 2010!
